Preventing rice beetle
(1) Put in 7 - 8 dried chili deep in the rice bin or container, or
(2) Put in a few lime leaves, or
(3) Put in a few leaves of star fruit.
(4) To remove rice beetles, wash the rice, then place in a copper mould or any suitable container. Cover the container with a white cloth and place it in the sun for 20 minutes. Remove the cloth, you will find the beetles sticking to it, effectively removed from the rice.

Preventing ants from sugar
(1) Put a few sticks of cinnamon and/or clove in the sugar container. This also give a sweet fragrant to the sugar.
(2) Put one or two nutmeg in the sugar container.
(3) Simply place a dish with water under the sugar container.
(4) Place a few dried chili in kitchen cabinets.

Prolonging egg life
(1) Cleanse the eggs and wipe dry. Keep them in a container of glutinous rice.
(2) Wash the eggs, then soak them for 48 hours in water that has been mixed with slaked lime and salt. Wipe dry and store them in a dry and cool place.
(3) Place the narrower corners at the bottom.

Prolonging tofu
Try this for preventing tofu from getting stale quickly, sour-smelling, and making it last longer. Cleanse it first, and dry off. Then pour hot water over it and leave to cool off. Store in the refrigerator.

Longer lasting chicken
Remove chicken for its packaging. Wash clean, then cover it whole with wheat flour. Leave for a few hours, then re-wash, and refrigerate.

Slowing decay of bananas
Add a bowl of rice to a bigger container. Place the bananas in the container until its time be eaten or cooked.

Storing Prawns
Wash the prawn clean and filter the water out. Mix with a little sugar, then store in a tight-lid container. This will preserve the prawns up to a couple of days, even without refrigeration.
