Household Pests

Getting rid of cockroaches, mosquitoes, mice, bed bugs, ants, spider webs and rodents

Cockroaches
To kill cockroaches and prevent them from breeding, do these steps.
(1) Cut the end of a cucumber and place it on cockroach-infested areas.
(2) Place some cardamoms in cockroach-infested areas.
(3) For substantial numbers, immerse a potato in water and boil. Once softened, mash it and add bicarbonate soda. Make into a ball and place it on the cockroach-infested areas.
(4) Place a pandan leave (small screwpine) or two in areas cockroaches like to frequent, such as dark corners of cupboards or the kitchen nooks. Replace the leaves with new ones when they wilter.

Mosquitoes
Pound a few lime leaves and place them on a plate. Place the plate on mosquito-infested areas, especially in dark areas. When in traveling in mosquito-infested areas, rub on the skin cut garlic. or take in some garlic so the its scent will pass off in sweat and ward of mosquitoes.

Mice
(1) Mice hate the sweet smell of pandan leaves (small screwpines). Cut with scissors a pandan leave and place them in areas where mice frequent.
(2) Place sour-sop leaves at places they frequent.

Bed bugs
Place the skin of lime under the bed or where bed bugs are. In 4-5 days, they would either die off or run elsewhere as they can't tolerate the smell of lime skin.

Ants
(1) Fine ants often get attracted to food items placed in the open. Smear with chalk around the area where food items are placed, or scatter some chalk powder to prevent ants from getting near food items.
(2) Put a few sticks of cinnamon and clove in the sugar container. This also give a sweet fragrant to the sugar.
(3) Burn egg-shells to ash. Pour them around ant-infected areas.

Spider webs
Cleanse the area where cobwebs always appear. Dip a piece of cloth in kerosene oil and wipe the areas with it, or use a broom dipped in kerosene oil for high places.
