The Warning Signs
(1) He (or She) delays schoolwork, keeps forgetting he/she has
one, or skip doing it together.
(2) He keeps thinking of the Computer Game, tries to cut down or stop but couldn't, and becomes depressed, restless or irritable
when trying to do so.
(3) Ask or force him to stop and he becomes aggressive and abusive.
(4) He skips other activities and socializing with friends for the sake of the Computer Game. It is what takes his most time and energy, and leave little for anything else..
(5) He spends more time and money on the Computer Game.
(6) Basis necessities are ignored, such as eating, and bathing. He may forget to go to school.
(7) When in class, he gets tired - and sleeps.
The Approach
(1) Understand how the Computer Game works. Understanding the subject would make
for a better discussion of the issue at hand. Don't try
playing too often, you might get hooked yourself, and soon
both of you would need help.
(2) Work out a schedule where he can get limited time on the computer, and still do other actitivies.
And when on the computer, monitor who his online gaming friends are.
(3) Steer him slowly to other healthy activities such as cycling, or
other sports, or get him engaged in new hobbies.
(4) If you think you can't handle it, get professional help.
